Australians in the United States often find themselves suspended between cultures, carrying the weight of distance while forging new purpose. This documentary brings that experience into focus, giving voice to a community rarely seen with such honesty.
The film also honors the legacy of 9/11 — acknowledging the Australians whose lives were lost, and the community that continues to carry their memory forward. These stories are part of Australian history. Preserving them ensures future generations understand the courage, sacrifice and resilience that shaped this community.

The first twenty‑five supporters who donate $100 or more will receive admission to the Red‑Carpet Premiere, including entry to the After Party just a short walk from the theatre. Food and beverages provided.
These spots will go quickly — and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Director’s Statement
Ten Australians began as a feeling — a tension I’ve carried for years between the place that forms us and the place we choose to remake ourselves. New York has a way of stripping people back to their essence. It challenges you, sharpens you, and reveals who you are when no one is watching. As an Australian living here, I’ve witnessed that transformation in others: the grit, the humor, the vulnerability. This film is my attempt to map that inner landscape.
Through my work with The Australian Community, I heard stories that rarely reach the screen — stories of reinvention, loneliness, cultural friction, and the quiet victories that define a life built far from home. These voices shaped the film’s tone: intimate, character‑driven, and unvarnished.
I wanted the film to feel natural, almost tactile. No stylized teal‑and‑orange grading. No B‑Roll used as camouflage. No score nudging the audience toward emotion. Just the truth of the room, the light, and the sound of Australian voices in a foreign city. Music appears only at the beginning and end, leaving space for the cadence of each story to breathe. The film breaks a few documentary conventions, but only in service of authenticity.
Threaded through the narrative is a responsibility I hold deeply: to honor the Ten Australians who died on 9/11. Their memory is a quiet undercurrent — a reminder that migration is not only about ambition, but about legacy, sacrifice, and the communities we build in the wake of loss.

This film was created for The Australian Community, a non‑profit that has stood behind Australians in New York for more than a decade.
