Trying to raise funds to get my family of 5 a new home after becoming homeless. Feeling hopeless even though we are working hard.

• Hello,
• We are the Hurd Family Shawn and Brittaney, and our three children: Aaron (16), Chaze (15), and LaRae (12).
• 
  
• We never imagined we would be sharing our story this way, but we believe in being open during life’s hardest moments. Our family is currently experiencing homelessness and is living at God’s Love Homeless Shelter in Helena, Montana. While we are thankful for a roof over our heads, this is not where we ever envisioned raising our children.

• Every day, we wake up determined to keep our family together, safe, and moving forward despite the overwhelming challenges we face.
•

• HOW WE GOT HERE
• 
  
• Life can change in ways you never expect. Like many families, we worked hard, planned carefully, and believed that dedication and perseverance would be enough to keep us stable. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control placed us in a position no parent ever wants to be in.
• 
  
• This season has tested us emotionally, mentally, and financially. Still, through every setback, our commitment to our children has never wavered. They are our reason for pushing forward, even on the hardest days.

• LIFE IN A HOMELESS SHELTER
• 
  
• Living in a shelter is far more than a temporary inconvenience it is a daily struggle that affects every part of family life. Space is limited, privacy is minimal, and routines are constantly disrupted. For growing children, this environment can feel confusing, overwhelming, and isolating.
• 
  
• We are grateful that the shelter allows us to remain together as a family unit, but this comes at a cost of $350 per month, which we must pay while also trying to cover food, transportation, school needs, and basic living expenses.
• 
  
• Despite these challenges, we do everything we can to create normalcy for our children maintaining routines, encouraging their education, and reminding them that this moment does not define their future.

• WHY A PERMANENT HOME IS SO IMPORTANT
• 
  
• Our greatest hope is to secure a stable, permanent home not just a place to sleep, but a place where our children can truly feel safe again.
• 
  
• A home means:
• Consistency and routine
• Emotional security
• A sense of belonging
• The ability to heal and grow
• 
  
• We dream of a home with enough space for all five of us, where our children can do homework at a kitchen table, sleep peacefully at night, and begin to rebuild a sense of normal life.

• SUPPORTING OUR SON ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM
• 
  
• Our oldest son, Aaron, is on the Autism Spectrum. He thrives in calm, structured environments and struggles greatly with constant noise, unpredictability, and frequent transitions.
• 
  
• Shelter life is especially challenging for him. Our hope is to provide a sensory-friendly room in our future home a safe, quiet space where he can regulate his emotions, decompress, and thrive academically and emotionally. Having this environment would be life changing for him and a crucial step toward his independence and well-being

• TRANSPORTANTION: A MAJOR BARRIER TO STABILITY
• 
  
• Transportation is one of the biggest obstacles standing between our family and long-term stability. Our only vehicle is currently unreliable due to serious mechanical issues.
• 
  
• Driving is essential for nearly everything we do:
• 
  
• Earning income
• Buying food and necessities
• Meeting school and shelter requirements
• Attending appointments and interviews
• 
  
• Without reliable transportation, our ability to survive and move forward is constantly at risk

• If we are blessed enough to raise additional funds, our deepest hope is to create a small savings for our children, giving them a foundation as they transition into adulthood something every child deserves.

We are now currently housed in a shelter. In hopes that we can get help rebuilding or buying new home.
