Imagine a Child Who Never Has to Wonder If They Belong

Picture a 7-year-old opening a book and seeing someone who looks just like them wearing a white coat, saving lives, making a difference. That moment of recognition can change everything.

Research shows that children who see diverse role models in literature are 43% more likely to aspire to careers in those fields. Yet for millions of Black children, those moments are still too rare. The Doctors Like Me children's book series exists to change that.

Meet Eli

A curious, imaginative 7-year-old Black boy who discovers a world of possibility as he meets Black physicians across different medical specialties. With every encounter, Eli gains more than knowledge about medicine. He gains role models, confidence, and the unshakeable belief that he belongs.

Through vibrant illustrations and engaging storytelling, young readers will:

• Learn foundational concepts about medicine and healthcare.
• See themselves reflected in diverse, accomplished medical professionals.
• Understand that career paths are never limited by race or background.
• Walk away feeling bold, capable, and inspired.

Book 1 was fully funded, and now Eli's story continues. Your support will bring Books 2 and 3 to life.

Why This Matters and Why Now

If we want to diversify the physician workforce, we can't wait until college or medical school. We must plant the seed before doubt takes root.

Children form beliefs about who they can become as early as age 4. When a Black child grows up without ever seeing a Black doctor in a book, on TV, or in their community, the message, however unintentional, is that medicine isn't for them. Doctors Like Me rewrites that narrative, one story at a time.

I created this series because I believe representation isn't a "nice to have". It's a necessity. Eli's story is for every child who has ever looked around and not seen themselves. As Eli discovers in these books, sometimes all it takes is seeing someone who looks like you doing something incredible to realize: I can do that too.
