Caellum was diagnosed with brain cancer and 17-22 months to live. Many have asked for a way to help/donate. We really appreciate it
I never dreamed I'd be making a post like this on social media, but here we are. Life can completely change in a day. We'd love your prayers for our 12-year-old son Caellum. He had stroke-like symptoms on Saturday July the 19th. He woke me up saying he had thrown up and his right hand was numb. He threw up several more times and couldn't keep anything down. Eventually, he was unable to talk and he had lost feeling on his right side. We took him to the emergency room and quickly found out with a ct scan that he had a very large tumor in his brain that was bleeding. We were in shock to say the least. Caellum has always been perfectly healthy. Now we didn't know if he'd survive the night.
They intubated him and life-flighted him to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. The surgeon called and talked to us as we were driving to the hospital and gave us hope that his outcome could still be good, even though surgery brings risks. He made it clear this was a life-saving surgery. Of course we said to go ahead and he and another amazing neurosurgeon finished with Caellum's surgery about the same time that we got here and found the waiting room. They were so kind and explained everything and answered all our questions. The surgery was a success! They had removed the whole tumor and stopped the bleeding! The tumor was the size of a tangerine. They sent many samples to pathology, and we are waiting for more information about what the tumor is and if it is cancerous or benign. The current MRI shows there is still some tumor remnants left, but they will remove that when they put his skull piece back on when swelling goes down.
Meanwhile, Caellum was extubated last night and has woken up. He is now off of oxygen. He is completely aware of where he is and what is going on. He has full feeling in his left side, and as of this morning, he can lift and move his right leg. He can't move his right arm or the right side of his mouth. This is most likely due to the swelling of his brain from the tumor and bleeding. He also can only speak a few words. He gets frustrated that he can't talk, so we have him nod yes or no or give us a thumbs up or down with his left hand. The doctors tell us we have to be patient and everything will take time. He is improving little by little and is leaving intensive care today. We are so thankful for the amazing miracles we have seen so far and we hope we keep seeing more! Thank you so much for your prayers!🙏🩷
