In 1987, we started dreaming of the world we wanted to live in. It would be a utopia for new music. All the boundaries between composers would come down. All the boundaries between genres would come down. All the boundaries between musicians and audiences would come down. Then we started trying to build it.
In the last forty years, we've become one of the most important new music organizations in the world, without ever turning into the establishment. We've trained thousands of young musicians, supported genre-bending artists all over the world, and presented hundreds of premieres. For forty years, we've proven that generosity and openness create better art than boundaries and barriers to access, building a world in which powerful new musical ideas flow freely across all genres and borders.
Projects include the annual Long Play (Brooklyn) and LOUD Weekend (MASS MoCA) festivals; the Bang on a Can All-Stars, who tour to major festivals and concert venues around the world every year, and the Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival – a first-of-its-kind professional development program for young composers and performers led by today’s pioneers of experimental music. Each new Bang on a Can program has evolved to answer specific challenges faced by today’s musicians, composers, and audiences. Your money goes directly to these ongoing projects and helps us create the projects we haven't even dreamed of yet!
