Aim
Starting an Indie Book Store
Hello! For my entire life, I have been passionate about books and reading. I was the kid in school who hid their books under the desk to read while the teacher was talking. Now that I am an adult, I would like to make books into my livelihood.
The idea of starting my own independent bookstore began ages ago, but it was a passing notion rather than one I thought possible. As time wore on, and I brought it up more often to more people, the bookstore became less of a daydream and more of a goal.
This is how Archetyped was born.
Archtyped is a bookstore specializing in fantasy and other fiction genres. Not only would we be selling books, but we would also be creating community space for readers. We would host book clubs, craft nights, writing spaces, and author events to serve the book nerds south of Houston, Texas.
In addition to books sales and community space, we are looking into the possibility of serving literature themed drinks.
We would begin with an online store and pop-up events before eventually transferring to a brick and mortar establishment. This crowdfunder is to help with some initial costs, 10k is nowhere near what we need to raise in order to fully get a store set-up.
Examples of what your donations would go to include -
- Legal fees
- Joining American Booksellers Association
- Creating Book Subscription Boxes (we intend to sell these on the website starting this year)
- Costs for Pop-Up Shops & Supplies
- Stock of Books
- Saving toward brick & mortar location
What are we currently doing?
- Following a Business Development plan given to us by the Center for Women Entrepreneurs at Texas Woman's University
- Designing our own exclusive bookish items to sell at pop-ups and in monthly subscription boxes.
- Developing a line of Blind Date books called "No Bad Dates".
- Working on building website & social media.
