How Do I Send Private Messages to My Supporters?

You can send private messages to individual supporters – or groups of supporters – directly from your project dashboard. This is a great way to thank backers, or answer questions discreetly.

Even if a supporter has chosen to pledge anonymously, you can still message them privately (their identity is hidden from the public, not from you as the project creator).

Important Guidelines

Before sending any messages, please remember:

  • The messaging feature is not for marketing or general project updates
  • Use it only for personalized communication with your supporters
  • For campaign-wide updates, use the Project Updates feature instead

How to Message Supporters

Log In to Your Project Dashboard

Go to your dashboard and click the Supporters tab in the left-hand menu. This will show you a full list of everyone who has contributed to your campaign.

Send a Message

  • To a Single Supporter: Click the Send Message button next to their name
  • To Multiple Supporters: Check the box next to each person you want to message, Click Message Selected
  • To All Supporters: Click the Message All button at the top of the list

Want to post something publicly? Consider using a project update instead.

What Happens After You Send a Message?

  • Supporters will receive your message via the email they used to pledge
  • If they reply, the response will go directly to the email address you used when creating your project
  • Messages sent through your public project page will also come to that same email

Note: This messaging tool is send-only – you’ll receive replies via email, not within the dashboard.

Note About Unsuccessful Campaigns

If your project does not reach its goal and closes unsuccessfully, all supporter data will be removed from your dashboard. This means:

  • You won’t be able to send private messages to backers
  • However, you can still post a public project update that will appear on your page and be visible to anyone who visits
