Michael raised seed funding to develop the proprietary email platform VineRunner, which his company Encourage Marketing used for refer-a-friend email-based sweepstakes, viral promotions and word-of-mouth marketing.
Michael helped launch one of the first viral and word-of-mouth marketing agencies, Buzztone, to service the music and film industries.
TicketWeb, an e-commerce pioneer, was the first company to sell event tickets online. Ticketmaster acquired the company in early 2000. Michael helped to build a grassroots online ticketing business that generated annual revenues of over $20 million. Michael was integral to the Berkeley, Calif.-based companys national expansion, opening its first branch office in Chicago. He also developed a key marketing strategy to enlist support of arts and cultural venues. Developed and sponsored the seminar Secrets to Successful Online Marketing in conjunction with the Arts and Business Council of Chicago.
