WOCO started 6 years ago with the belief that this amount of time would be enough to get our product out to the marketplace. We soon realized that the fabric dying technologies that we needed were not available in Colombia. We then ran a couple of trials in the United States in two labs in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, until after a lot of trial and error and being dangerously close to give up, we found what we were looking for back in Medellin, Colombia. We launched the brand WOCO in 2006 and soon we had magazine artilcles written about us. I joined the team when the company was already functioning and my contribution was to help consolidate and commercialize a business model that was innovative at the time for Colombia. Its core business was to link supply and demand between the Colombian an the foreign markets. At the same time we formed a group called “Young Exporting Entrepreneurs” alongside the former Secretary of International Trade, Martha Lucía Ramirez. We sarted setting an example to young entrepreneurs around the country, since we gained awards from the Ministry of Commerce in 2001 and 2002, since we were one of the 15 successful companies out of 450 that had been registered.
