Heetway is the leader in technology for replacing coal with clean sustainable biomass.

World coal consumption in 2016 was over 3.7 billion tons worth over $1 trillion. 41% of the world's electricity is supplied by coal. But coal is a dirty way to create energy. It emits unrecaptured carbon and sulfur into the atmosphere. The problem is that most of the world's power plants operate on coal. And replacing all of that capital infrastructure is expensive and takes time. It's so easy to just keep burning coal.

Enter Heetway. We replace coal with clean sustainable biomass that is processed in a way that makes it handle and burn like coal at existing power plants. Heetway Clean Energy Fuel literally replaces coal at existing power plants.

How does it work?

  1. Wood is collected from sustainable sources. The sustainability of the wood supply is a critical component in making sure that biomass is carbon neutral - so we insist that the sustainability of the wood supply is audited and certified by accredited third parties.
  2. The wood is processed using Heetway technology. The process removes the low energy parts of wood so the end product has energy density similar to coal. But the process also gives the biomass other traits that are similar to coal including grindability, water resistance and burning characteristics.
  3. The Heetway Clean Energy Fuel is delivered to coal plants and they can burn it just like coal. Coal power plants can run entirely on Heetway Clean Energy Fuel, but they also have the option of mixing it with coal if they want a fraction of their capacity to be clean and renewable.

  • 2015-2016 -The plant produces about 120,000 tonnes of a unique blend of wood chips and torrefied wood.
