Dreamfuel builds tools for athletes & teams. Our first tool is a crowdfunding platform to solve sports' global and manual fundraising problem.
At the youth level, kids are still going door to door selling candy bars and other manual goods, collecting no data along the way from supporters for their programs' long term use. For example, our co-founder Emily White comes from a powerhouse sports high school where she was a state champion & All-American athlete. No one has ever reached out to her in her career as a successful executive in her adult life asking if she would like to support the school's athletic programs because they don't have her email address.
Meanwhile as the average U.S. Olympic hopeful's salary is $15,000/year, this is a sorely needed and new revenue stream for athletes at the elite level. 90% of athletes, teams & coaches we come into contact with have never heard of Kickstarter or crowdfunding but love the concept when we explain it to them.
Speaking of Kickstarter, the aforementioned Emily has managed artists & athletes behind some of the largest crowdfunding campaigns in history. This includes Amanda Palmer, who raised over $1M on Kickstarter, the most ever for a musician on the platform. When Emily began managing Olympic gold medalist Anthony Ervin, he wanted to compete on the World Cup circuit but didn't know how he was going to pay for it. As he was leaving in a few weeks there was no way a sponsorship could be guaranteed so Emily took the project to the Kickstarter founders, who rejected it because they don't work in sports. Emily quickly put together the campaign herself, raised more than the goal, Anthony was able to compete with the freedom of mind of not having to win to pay off debt, and the result was 16 medals, 9 of them gold, an American record, a slew of engaged fans, global unsolicited press and USA Swimming changing their rule to now partially fund athletes who want to compete for the U.S. at the World Cup.
Thus, Dreamfuel was born out of necessity. Additionally, Emily was a Division I scholarship athlete who is the daughter & granddaughter of coaches; growing up immersed and surrounded by the world of sport.
